Old bottles or skins will be more brittle and liable to break than new bottles or skins. Many have suggested that the ‘new wine’ was the intoxicating kind that had not yet completely fermented. This is not necessarily the case. Old containers and old liquids always go together better than new liquids in old containers. Just as with the last verse, Americans would generally not use a container until it would be considered ‘old’ in the ancient world.
