Some have tried to make this feeding and the feeding of the five thousand the same event. There is no good reason to do so. There are so many differences between the two that out is impossible to make them the same event. There is no good purpose in attempting it.
Though it is true that the disciples who wrote the gospels sometimes have some variation in their accounts, this is not what is going on in this passage. Like the two cleanings of the temple, or the two women who attended to Jesus, these two feedings are different. Always keep in mind that there may have been other miracles involving food that the gospels simply do not tell us about.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Your Word is such a wonderful gift! In it we can find all we need to get us through this life. I thank You for making such a resource available to us. You are kind to help us understand it and learn from it. Almighty God has made a way for us to know what he is thinking. That is amazing all by itself. The availability of Your Word in this day is a testimony to Your desire to glorify Yourself in Your love for us. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.
