Matthew 24:2

Matthew 24:2
To us today this seems quite strange, to say that a stone would not be left upon another. But, if you understand ancient construction, and ancient destruction, it makes perfect sense. Large buildings such as the temple were built by putting huge stones on top of each other. These stones were expertly shaped and perfectly fitted. So, to truly destroy the temple, the stones would have to be removed from one another. Destroying individual stones as they stood would be virtually impossible.
Beyond this, Jesus’ words fit with history. The temple was utterly destroyed later by the Romans, and not one stone was left upon another. The destruction was complete.
