Mark 3:16

Mark 3:16
So, in the case of Peter, do not get confused. His name at birth was Simon, a traditional Hebrew name. Jesus then gave him another name, Cephas, which was likely Aramaic. Peter only comes indirectly in that it is the Greek translation of the Aramaic Cephas. So, quite possibly, Peter was not actually called Peter all that much, if at all. Instead, he was most generally refereed to as Cephas after Jesus renamed him, and Simon before that.
