Luke 9:54 “And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

This one will make you think. Here we have a town that rejected Christ’s disciples, and thus rejected Him as a result. Yet, His disciples were still growing in their understanding of the Person of Christ themselves. How were they good representatives of Him? And yet they were officially His ministers to the world.
James and John were the ones most likely to make a statement like this. They had a tendency towards zeal, though not always a well-placed zeal. Like Peter, Jesus had to help them grow a lot. But, Jesus did choose Peter, James and John to experience things that others did not.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son! Keep us humble dear Lord! We are so full of pride and we think so much of ourselves. You are worthy of all the glory and praise and honor and power. You alone have good motives, good methods, and good ideas. We must live to live for You. You are the One Who can lead our lives to be something great, not us. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.
