Matthew 14:27
There are a couple of wonderful things to notice in this verse. First, Matthew says that Jesus called out to the disciples right away. He knew they were scared, and he immediately began to allay their fears. Secondly, Jesus says the most comforting things that he could say. He tells them to be of ‘good cheer,’ or literally, to ‘take courage.’ Then he says that name of his that should fill us with the most comfort in troubling times, ‘I Am.’ This is literally what he says. This name reminds us that he is all-sufficient. The storms of life are nothing to him, he is the Rock that is higher, he will not be moved. Then, he says what we have found so many times in scripture, ‘do not be afraid.’ Isn’t that great? These are the three most comforting things he could say, and he says them all, back to back. Jesus knows how to comfort us, may we learn to listen to his words.

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 13:1-17:19
Scripture Memory: 1 John 3:16 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Your care for us is so sweet to us. Knowing that You love us so much is such a comfort. You really always know exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. Oh Father, may we always s depend upon Your tender care rather than trying to care for ourselves. We were never meant to fend for ourselves, but to be part of Your kingdom, and to be Your trusted servants. Oh Lord, help us to live as You would have us to, that we might see the good things that You do every day! You love us so much! I love You, Father. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.
