News got around to the acquaintances of Jesus who had known him since his early years. They heard of the nature of his ministry, and came to the conclusion that this was not the person they all knew. Thus, he must have lost his mind. So, they attempt to ‘help’ him by going to take him away from his ministry. How often do well-meaning persons stand in the way of the gospel in an attempt to ‘help’ with something?

So, in the case of Peter, do not get confused. His name at birth was Simon, a traditional Hebrew name. Jesus then gave him another name, Cephas, which was likely Aramaic. Peter only comes indirectly in that it is the Greek translation of the Aramaic Cephas. So, quite possibly, Peter was not actually called Peter all that much, if at all. Instead, he was most generally refereed to as Cephas after Jesus renamed him, and Simon before that.
