A Rescued Life

The one who seeks to save his life will lose it, and the one who loses it will rescue it.

Luke 17:33

For many, life is actually made up of all the things, freedoms, and conditions that are valued as a part of a happy human life. But these things are not life. The Lord teaches us to hold things with an open hand, knowing that we ultimately must rely upon Him.

Heavenly Father, when You want to take something, there is always a good reason. Thank You for guiding us and showing us Your way. Life is great, when we understand what it really is. I love You! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

Remember Lot’s Wife

Remember Lot’s wife.

Luke 17:32

The judgement of God should be feared above all else. The reminder of Lot’s wife here serves as a warning to any who would hesitate if given a prior notice of the coming calamity.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the comfort of Your Word! Though we are imperfect in our understanding, Your Spirit guides and helps us. To look daily upon it’s pages is truly a blessing. Never could we take more for granted than to ignore the benefits of the Bible. Thank You! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

Don’t Grab Anything

In that day, the one who is on the housetop, and his things in the house, do not let him go down to pick them up. And the one who is in the field, likewise do not let him not turn back.

Luke 17:31

When the judgement of the Lord is coming, there is no time for worldly persuits. Events surrounding the coming of Christ will not be entirely predictable.

Heavenly Father, thank You for telling us these things ahead of time. Give us wisdom to understand and know Your truth. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

Just Like That

It will be just like that in the day of the coming of the Son of Man.

Luke 17:30

We like to tell ourselves that everyone will know when Jesus is coming the second time. But few, if any, will. The Lord’s timetable is a mystery to all but the faithful.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing love for us. You express it in such beautiful ways to our hearts! I praise You for You are truly worthy! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

The Very Day

But the day Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven, and destroyed all of them;

Luke 17:29

Rain can come unexpectedly. The meteorologists try to predict it, but even then one must hear the warning. This rain was even more sudden and unexpected, as well as different.

Heavenly Father, You are gloriously good and wonderfully powerful. I am awed by Your ways and silenced by Your truth. Thank You for Your love and forgiveness. Without Your great grace, we would have no hope. Thank You! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

The Days of Lot

And it was the same in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built

Luke 17:28

Just like the days of Noah, the days of Lot were carefree. They did not expect the coming judgement. They were oblivious to any signs of coming danger. And the judgement was sudden and complete.

Heavenly Father, thank You for leading us to Your truth. You are truly wonderful and wise beyond all of our understanding. Thank you! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

The Cataclysm

They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day came that Noah went into the ark, and the cataclysmic flood came and destroyed all of them.

Luke 17:27

In other words, their lives proceeded relatively normally right up to the minute that catastrophe struck. This world will march along thinking all is proceeding according to plan, and Christ will catch it by surprise.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your work in history! You are not mocked. You have everything planned out from the beginning to the end. It is all there in Your mind. You are the Great Architect and Builder of all that we see and know. Thank You! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

The Days of Noah

And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man.

Luke 17:26

Jesus is speaking here of His current visitation. Just like the world in Noah’s time, the world in the days of Christ largely ignored this Preacher of Righteousness.

Heavenly Father, thank You for th first coming of the Lord Jesus. We now have hope of eternal salvation. And we look forward to the Day of the Son of Man! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

Suffer Many Things

First, however, it is necessary for Him to suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

Luke 17:25

Jesus had to do what He did. This verse is one of several that show us the plan concerning the first and second coming. All of history is impacted by Christ since His work on the cross. But His ‘day’ is coming, and all the world will know it when it happens.

Heavenly Father, thank You for another day to look at Your Word and see the truth. You are the One Who gives us the answers. Thank You! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.

Glowing Like Lightning

Just as the lightning which flashes out of the one place under heaven into another place under heaven glows, like that will be the the Son of Man in His day.

Luke 17:24

The Lord Jesus came in humility to this world. His humility has gone nowhere. He retains it. His submission to the Father is complete and beautiful.

But, the Father has highly exalted Him. When He returns, there shall be no doubt Who He is. His glory will be beyond obvious. His glorious person will be manifested for all to see. He is powerful, holy, pure, and righteous above all that we can possibly imagine.

Heavenly Father, Your power and glory overwhelm us. Thank You for Your great love and Your unfailing arm. You uphold everything! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.
